Ashaiman, Ghana

Communal Service Block
In Ashaiman we aim to roll out a network of Communal Service Blocks (CSBs) under the Safi Sana franchise concept. Construction of the initial pilot block in Ashaiman started in 2011. This first CSB is a 14-seater public toilet with a kiosk for buying potable water and hygiene products for both men and women. The toilet will replace an old ‘Enviroloo’ facility that was in an unsanitary condition. This facility is one of the two public toilets that are part of our test pilot in the east Accra region.
During the pilot we will conduct extensive monitoring and evaluation of the social, operational and technical aspects of the CSB in Ashaiman.
project status
The construction of the toilet block was finished in the summer of 2012 and is operated by Church of Christ, a non-governmental organisation operational in Ashaiman.
