Vacancy: Composting Supervisor, Kumasi, Ghana
For a new compost production project in Kumasi, Safisana Ghana and Clean Team Ghana are seeking to hire a Composting Supervisor to take responsibility for the coordination, monitoring, inventory and supervision of a compost production pilot in Kumasi. The contract is initially for six months, and can be extended if the pilot is successful.
About us
Safisana is an international social enterprise that has developed a circular waste-to-resource business model for local waste treatment for governments, utilities and food processing industries. Our recycling plant in Ashaiman, (Greater Accra Area, Ghana) turns organic waste and faecal sludge into high-value products: renewable energy (biogas and electricity) and organic fertiliser.
Clean Team Ghana provides waterless, household toilet services to low-income customers in Kumasi. Clean Team collects the waste from customer homes twice a week and is currently collecting approximately 165 tonnes of waste per month.
Safisana and Clean Team have formed a partnership over the past two years to explore collaboration on waste treatment and how to use the waste Clean Team collects as a valuable resource for the production of organic fertiliser. The next step in this collaboration is a composting pilot in Kumasi.
About your role
In your role as the Composting Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day composting operations for a compost production pilot in Kumasi. You will report and work closely together with the Project Manager and the Waste Sourcing Lead and Waste Characterization Lead of the project.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the composting team
- Monitor the compost operation (time for watering, turning, maturity)
- Register all new windrows
- Ensure accurate data is logged in by the composting team.
- Stock taking of compost produced
- Take inventory of all composting tools and assets
- Ensure health and safety is observed on the site by staff
- Assist in the characterization of waste
Qualifications
- HND
- Proven experience as a team leader or supervisor
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Skills / Abilities
- Ability to make excellent decisions and overcome challenges creatively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Self-motivated and organised
- Problem-solving and decision-making aptitude
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Able to work additional hours to meet business demands
- Ability to work independently and proceed with objectives without close supervision
