Fertilizer distributor Yvonne is a truly passionate ambassador of Asase Gyefo

In 2025, Safisana will significantly scale up the production of Asase Gyefo Organic Fertilizer in both our recycling plant in Ashaiman and at the compost hub in Kumasi. "With increased production, Safisana aims to enlarge Asase Gyefo’s reach by strengthening its distributor network throughout Ghana’s key farming regions,” says Safisana’s General Manager, Elikplim Asilevi. "Fertilizer distributors play an essential role in the promotion and sales of our organic fertilizer. They are ambassadors of Asase Gyefo Organic Fertilizer in the community."

Connections and communication

Recently, Safisana’s sales team visited one of the distributors, Yvonne Gomado in Koluedor, a village near the town of Ada. Ada has the biggest tomato-farming community in Ghana. At her shop, named “Come and See”, Yvonne has been selling Asase Gyefo Organic Fertilizer since last year. When she heard about the Organic Fertilizer on the radio she decided to make her first purchase of 500 bags. While previously selling chemical fertilizers, Yvonne had been looking for organic alternatives to support the environment and climate change. Through Yvonne’s network of farmers in Ada, Safisana has built a connection with the farmer community in town. At Yvonne’s shop, farmers often gather to share their experiences and feedback with Asase Gyefo Organic Fertilizer.

Building credibility with distributors to increase sales

Yvonne Gomado owns her shop with her husband, Paul Kanor, a farmer who cultivates tomatoes, watermelon, and mangoes. Yvonne and Paul are well-known in the community. Paul uses Asase Gyefo for his crops and speaks enthusiastically about the effect that the organic fertilizer has on his crops. Even though Ada suffered severe droughts this year, his tomato crops were flowering, and his farmland was beautifully green in July. The tomato seedlings were healthy and green, reducing the plant shock when transplanted into the field. In like a manner, Asase Gyefo Organic Fertilizer had a great effect on his watermelons as well. Paul Kanor describes: “Our watermelons tasted extra sweet, the leaves were larger and greener than ever before, my experience with Asase Gyefo is in one word: superb! We want to try it on our mangoes next time and can’t wait to see the results.”

In a town like Ada, Paul’s review of Asase Gyefo goes a long way. Generally, farmers are careful to adjust their methods as they impose risks. One change in the methodology might mean a low yield resulting in a low income for the season. Therefore, hearing and seeing what the fertilizer did for Paul’s farm has encouraged other farmers to try Asase Gyefo as well. So far, Yvonne shares that she only received good feedback from farmers who tried Asase Gyefo. Yvonne reflects “I made good sales from selling Asase Gyefo Organic Fertilizer. Farmers showed me the results of their maize, sweet pepper, onion, tomato, and watermelon crops. Farmers want results, so I expect the Asase Gyefo Organic Fertilizer sales to go sky-high!”

Distributors as ambassadors

Through conversing with Yvonne, Safisana strengthens its connection with the farming community in Ghana. Yvonne introduced us to one of her customers, Godwin, a school teacher and farmer. Godwin has one of the biggest farms in town and became an ambassador of Asase Gyefo in Ada, together with Yvonne and Paul he testifies the results of the project to introduce farmers to the use of organic fertilizers for their crops.

Yvonne explained that before using Asase Gyefo Organic Fertilizer, farmers used cow dung and chicken droppings to grow their crops. However, the results cannot be compared to the use of Asase Gyefo. The reason for that is that cow dung only has Nitrogen whereas Asase Gyefo is rich in organic matter that improves soil health including all the nutrients and mineral such as copper, zinc, calcium and magnesium. It is important farmers are made aware of Asase Gyefo’s content and the reason why it increases their crop yield.
