Each year, young professionals join Safisana's team through national service placements and internships. The national service, managed by the National Service Authority (NSA), is a mandatory one-year service for all qualified tertiary graduates. We spoke with two colleagues who joined Safisana through national service and internship programmes and are now permanent members of the team. They share their experience at Safisana and how it has shaped their professional paths.

Meet Isabella Dziwornu, Finance Assistant

How did your journey at Safisana begin?
“My journey began in October 2024. I saw a post in a group saying Safisana was looking for national service personnel, so I applied and was hired. I studied accountancy and was interested in working in a private institution. Since joining, it has been a great experience, and I have learned a lot.”

What was your national service experience like here?
“It was a very good learning experience. I had the basic knowledge from school, but I did not yet have hands-on experience. Here, I learned from my supervisor and colleagues and gained practical experience in how to run and manage the finances of a company.”

Isabella Dziwornu
Finance Assistant
Joined Safisana for her national service in 2024, and started working at Safisana as a Financial Assistant in 2025.

What skills have you developed since joining Safisana?
“I have developed a lot of practical skills. I learned how to use finance software applications like Exact, which we use here at Safisana. My communication and teamwork skills have also improved. I can now cooperate and function well in a team. For me, Safisana is really a learning centre.”

How has Safisana supported your growth professionally and personally?
“I have learned many things from my supervisor and colleagues, especially practical financial tasks that I had never done before. These include bank reconciliations, budgeting, booking revenues, processing employee timesheets, and calculating taxes. This experience has helped me grow professionally and gain confidence in my work.”

What did it mean to you to be offered a permanent role?
“When I was offered a permanent role right after my national service, I was very happy. In Ghana, it can be hard to find a job right after service, so I felt very fortunate to have the opportunity to continue working here. I had no second thoughts about staying. The working environment is very welcoming, and I am happy that I can take care of myself and build my future.”

How does your work contribute to Safisana’s mission?
“In finance, we help manage the company’s cash flow and ensure funds are used responsibly to run daily operations. This helps the organisation continue its work in sanitation, renewable energy, and fertilizer production. I am proud to work with my colleagues here; the team environment is very supportive”

What would you say to young graduates or national service personnel considering Safisana?
“If they get the opportunity to do their service at Safisana, they should gladly accept it. It is a great place to learn and grow. Before coming here, I did not know much about renewable energy or fertilizer production, but I gained valuable knowledge and experience.”

Meet Papa Asubonteng Kumah, Safety and Quality Officer

Papa Asubonteng Kumah
Safety and Quality Officer
Did an internship in 2023 and 2024 and resumed as Safety and Quality Officer in 2025.

How did your journey at Safisana begin?
“My journey began when I was looking for a place to do my industrial attachment. I contacted the Quality Office, and that’s how I first learned about Safisana. I joined in 2023 and learned about the basics of Safisana's operations. In 2024, I returned for another internship and used the facility for my thesis project, which focused on how to maximise gas production from Safisana's biodigester.

What was your internship experience like?
“I joined at a time when Safisana was increasing the biodigester intake, so it was the right moment to learn about the digester operations and maintenance, as well as health, safety and quality management. It was a very practical experience that helped me understand how renewable energy systems operate in real life.”

What skills have you developed since joining Safisana?
“I have gained a lot of technical exposure and learned to operate and maintain equipment, including the CHP system, quality management systems, and operational procedures. I also worked with colleagues on improving production systems and updating standard operating procedures.”

How has Safisana supported your growth professionally and personally?
“Working on these projects helped me apply my theoretical knowledge in practice. It has brought me to where I am today as a formally employed Safisana staff member. On a personal level, it has also improved my standard of living. I am now employed and able to build my future.”

What did it mean to you to be offered a permanent role?
“It was a great opportunity for growth. In school, most of what we learn is theoretical, but here I gained a real understanding of Ghana’s renewable energy landscape and the impact we can make. Seeing the electricity we generate and understanding how our work helps communities has really opened my eyes.”

How does your work contribute to Safisana’s mission?
“As a Safety and Quality Officer, my role is to ensure that operations are safe and that quality standards are maintained. This helps protect employees while ensuring the plant continues to operate effectively.”

What makes you proud to work here?
“Because with our work, we help people. My contribution might be indirect, but it is still important. By helping keep the environment clean and supporting renewable energy, we contribute to healthier communities.”

What would you say to young graduates considering Safisana?
“Safisana is a hub for growth and learning. It is a welcoming environment where graduates can develop their skills and contribute to meaningful work. Anyone who shares the goal of making a positive impact is welcome here.”

Investing in Young Talent

In Ghana, many graduates struggle to find their first job. By providing practical training, mentorship, and career opportunities, Safisana helps young people transform their education into meaningful work. We’re proud to work with Isabella and Papa and to highlight our commitment to creating opportunities for young professionals. This year, we work with a new set of national service personnel who support Safisana’s operations in Sales, Agronomy, M&E, and Safety and Quality control. Stay up to date with us to get to know them as well!
